Andrew Collins presents: Avebury – The Cygnus Mystery

Sunday 6th @ 4.00pm

Greetings Mooties, this coming moot will be presented by the famous author Andrew Collins. For this moot Andrew asks, is Avebury aligned to the constellation of the Northern Cross, also known as Cygnus, the celestial swan. This was the discovery of Professor Alexander Thom in the 1960s, and rubbished by American archaeoastronomer Professor Gerald Hawkins, famous for announcing that Stonegenge was a Neolithic calendar clock.

Andrew Collins investigated and found that Thom was correct – Avebury is aligned to Cygnus. Yet if so why? What is the significance of this much overlooked constellation positioned so prominently on the Milky Way? The answer is that it has been seen as the point of
origin of life and universe, as well as the destination of the soul in death for cultures and civilizations around the world for many thousands of years. Its influence is reflected in the alignments of the Pyramids of Giza, the Indian mound sites of North America, the great temple of Cusco, and the Hindu temples of India. In his book THE CYGNUS MYSTERY, Andrew shows that Cygnus has been at the root of religions worldwide for over 30,000 years.

You can have a look at Andrew Collins site here by the way - check out the books page!

Please note that the start time for this presentation is 4pm, so please ensure you get there a little early as we'll be starting on time.

The Snow Moot!

Wow, isn't the scenery in and around Avebury so very stunning? This month's Pagan Moot is back in the pub and we'll be having a talk by Terry Dobney, Arch Druid and Keeper of the Stones and a general get together and chit-chat. The original plan to help fix up the West Kennet Long Barrow prior to the Moot has been postponed until another time, so it'll be in the Well Room for 3pm.

A big thanks to The Red Lion for having us back again. Having tried a few different venues now, the general consensus is that it'd be best held in the Red Lion. So come along for a chit-chat and join me in celebrating new life, my son Oberon.

Samhian - who's watching?

New Blood Needed! As Winter draws in and the home fires start to burn again, you’re probably wondering, “what amazing projects can I be getting on with over the next few months?” Look no further because we’re asking for some new volunteers to come and take an active roll in running, hosting and having fun at the Moot. We’d all like to see the Moot driven by the community, for the community – so here’s your chance... put you driving gloves on now and let us know what you’d like to do, see, hear... even feel hmmm.

Volunteers and needed to help on a number of fronts:
Scheduling Speakers
Hosting individual Moots
Running the Cafe
And a whole host of other essential tasks that all contribute to bringing us the chucky stew that is the Avebury Moot. If you’re interested then contact us and we’ll talk though what can be done.

This month's Moot will be offering a one off showing of the amazing little film, Erasing David. See the trailer and get you thinking caps on! We’re starting the film dead on 3pm (I mean it this time!) as we’ve got to clear out of town a few minute early this week. Bring cake.

Erasing David -

A DOCUMENTARY ABOUT PRIVACY, SURVEILLANCE AND THE DATABASE STATE

David Bond lives in one of the most intrusive surveillance states in the world. He decides to find out how much private companies and the government know about him by putting himself under surveillance and attempting to disappear, a decision that changes his life forever. Leaving his pregnant wife and young child behind, he is tracked across the database state on a chilling journey that forces him to contemplate the meaning of privacy and the loss of it.

Click here for a trailer and the website!

Come along and have a look...
Also the Moot is packing it’s picnic bag and putting on it walking boots again – that right, we’re on the move again.... keep an eye wide open here for further details.

States of Mind - October Moot

Greetings Mooties - this month's moot, States of Mind, looks at the power of our thoughts... and the ultimate power we have over Them. Utilising simple and sophisticated tools, both ancient and modern, we'll delve into the power of the mind. Magic! 3pm at the National Trust Learning Resource Centre.

Would everyone please also turn their thoughts to Samhain and the Labyrinthe, particularly whether they want to get involved. We need people to play with fire; poi, staffs, fire breathing etc, etc, people to help set up, people to make lanterns between now and then, drummers, chanters etc etc. Those taking part will also need to think about costume too. Drummers, black and skeletal, fire dancers red and sexy!
If anyone wants to get involved they can email Leon at crow.dark@virgin.net or phone him evenings on 01672539679.

Also, fancy looking at some real nasties in Swindon - then look no further the Swindon Ghost Fest... here!
Lots of really cool FREE talks and events on ghosts, ghosthunting and Wiltshire folklore.
